Guidelines for Our Podcast Conversation

Hello, y’all (that’s my Austin slang coming out!). This is James Gray, host of the Graymatter podcast, where data and AI leaders share how to leverage technology for a competitive business edge and offer career strategies to thrive in the tech industry. Listeners gain actional insights to transform their business through data, AI, and leadership and advance their careers.

I look forward to learning from you and sharing your insights with my large tech audience. The podcast is free-flowing and conversational to take where it feels natural. Before the podcast, we will have a conversation to confirm the topics that you are most passionate about and that will be valuable to the audience.

We will allocate an hour for the podcast recording and cover as many topics as possible. While we align on topics and a few questions before the recording, the podcast is not scripted, and we will let our curiosity guide us.

Here are some guidelines to ensure our podcast recording is top-notch:

  1. Time Allocation: Please allocate one hour of uninterrupted time to record the session. We want this to feel relaxed and engaging.
  2. Your Quiet Space: Please find a quiet space where you will not be interrupted by people, pets, etc.
  3. Distractions: Remember to silence notifications and sounds on your phone and computer, as those dings will distract the audience and us!
  4. Video Setup: The podcast recording will include video and be published as podcast audio and YouTube video. Please be sure your video camera is clean and unobstructed. Position yourself in the middle of the video camera.
  5. Laptop/Device Preparation: Please close all applications before our session to ensure adequate performance and eliminate distractions.
  6. Microphone & Headphones: It’s preferred to use an external USB microphone than wireless headphones or Apple AirPods. This is the ideal setup, but if you don’t have an external microphone, you can use the built-in laptop microphone as that is preferred to wireless. You can use headphones/AirPods as your “speaker” to hear me. This will reduce any echo.
  7. Lightning: Check your lighting before the recording session. Natural light is ideal that evenly illuminates across of your face. You can also use a ring light that is popular for providing adequate light.
  8. Recording Software: We will be Riverside.fm to record the podcast and video session. All you need is a Google Chrome browser.
